High-Rise Opens Friday

Jeremy Irons co-stars in Stanley Kubrick-type of movie

Kaila Sept, Thunderbird TV

oda Pictures Canada (A Thunderbird Company) wants to remind you that the Canadian release of Ben Wheatley's High-Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, and Elisabeth Moss, is on May 20th.

Set in the 1970s, High-Rise is the story of Robert Laing (Hiddleston), a young doctor who is seduced by a residential tower block in London. The building is divided so the super-rich reside on the upper floors, the rich - including Laing - live in the middle, and the well-off live on the lower floors. With residents seduced by the insularity and glamour of its co-habitants, chaos ensues as the high-rise, and its social strata, begin to crumble. Imagine an adult Lord of the Flies cross-wired with the faulty towers in Terry Gilliam’s  Brazil and an even more apocalyptic class polemic than  Snowpiercer...  It is a tour de force of astonishing geometrical precision and architectural ambition.

Written and Directed by: Ben Wheatley
Starring: Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans & Elisabeth Moss

The Hollywood Reporter compares High-Rise to Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange and British cult movies like Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment. The film features a cover of ABBA’s “SOS” by Portishead, their first song in six years recorded exclusively for the film, so you can only hear it in theatres.
