e regret to inform you that the BCTF, the union representing teachers, has informed the school district that they will be engaged in rotating strikes and will be withdrawing teaching services in Chilliwack on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

As a result of the strike action, teachers will not be reporting for duty. During that time schools and other locations will be picketed. We expect that all union personnel in our schools will be directed by their unions not to cross the picket lines.

While schools will continue to be open under the supervision of district administration, there will be no instruction or appropriate supervision during this person of job action. For safety reasons we ask that parents keep all children home from classes on Thursday, May 29. We anticipate that CUPE staff will honour the teachers' picket line and that busses will not operate.

All non-school district activities (including daycares, pre-schools, StrongStart Centres, community schools, neighbourhood learning centres and all facility rentals and activities) will be cancelled for the entire day of the strike.

Thank you for your patience. We know that you share with us the desire to return to normal operations as quickly as possible and that this labour dispute will soon be concluded. in the meantime, we will do our best to keep you informed in a timely manner.

For further updates please read (or listen to) media outlets and/or log onto the school district website at or call the recorded message line at (6040 792-1321. Your school principal may also be able to answer any questions you have.
