Famed Canadian author raises funds for newcomers  May 11

he Eastern Fraser Valley Refugee Committee is pleased to host acclaimed novelist, Lawrence Hill, who will be speaking about refugees in his fiction and in the world.

       

Hill is the award-winning author of Book of Negroes. His newest novel, The Illegal, is currently shortlisted for 2016 Canada Reads. He just won Best Screenplay for the Book of Negroes miniseries at the Canadian Screen Awards, and has been awarded the Order of Canada.

 

Lawrence and his wife, Miranda, have an active role in sponsoring a group, Longer Table, for which he recently participated in a fundraising evening with Olympian Clara Hughes that raised nearly 30k for the sponsorship of a family.
 

He will be speaking in Chilliwack at the Cornerstone Reform Church, 9800 McNaught Rd, Chilliwack, 7 P.M. on Wednesday, May 11th. Tickets are $40 and are available here, or at Carmen United, or Cornerstone Reform Church.
 

Tickets are limited, so be sure to get them early, as Hill's events always sell out.

 

 

A full compliment of the author's books will be available for purchase and signing with proceeds also going to the Eastern Fraser Valley Refugee Committee.
