Edible book fest, photo tour, wills & estates and more

Here’s what’s coming up at the Chilliwack Libraries:

How Not to be Pushy or a Pushover: The Power of Living an Assertive Life
Sardis Library: Thursday, March 31, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Do you wonder why some relationships just seem to be more difficult than they should be? This presentation will give you an overview on what you need to know about yourself and others in order to form positive relationships. Join author and speaker Karen Wells, as she shares helpful tips and strategies from her experience as a marriage and family therapist.

International Edible Book Festival
Yarrow Library: Saturday, April 2, 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

The Yarrow library is hosting its second Edible Book Day Contest. This annual international event is celebrated on or around April 1 around the world. Families are invited to create a favorite edible book in the following categories: Adult, Family, Teen or Child. Individuals (of all ages) and groups are welcome to attend and participate in the “Edible Books Festival" simply by creating something edible that is somehow book related. The entries will be exhibited and Judged between 12:30 - 1:30 pm.

Pickup your contest registration and rules at all three libraries and submit your registration at the Yarrow Library. Entries can be dropped off at the Yarrow Library between 10:00 and 1 pm. on Saturday April 2.

Haida Gwaii Photo Tour
Wednesday, April 6, 7 pm – 8 pm

Join Patrick O'Brien on a photographic tour the through Haida Gwaii (Islands of the People, voted one of National Geographic 20 best trips for 2015.) Walk vast remote beaches and picturesque villages. Join a 6 day mother-ship kayaking tour through Gwaii Haanas ( Islands of Beauty). Learn the stories the totem poles have to teach us. Visit SGang Gwaay a UNESCO World Heritage site and meet Haida Watchmen, the guardians of Gwaii Haanas’ natural and cultural treasures. Learn how to get there, what there is to see and more.

The Grateful Executer
Yarrow Library: Thursday, April 14, 6:30 – 8 pm
Chilliwack Library: Friday, April 15, 2 pm – 3 pm

Having a will does not mean your estate is prepared! Join us to learn how to make things easier for your family and your executor. This workshop covers very important topics such as probate, powers of attorney, cremation or burial preplanning, and living wills.

Detoxing Your Home
Sardis Library: Saturday, April 16, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

When you use Windex, bleach or dryer sheets do you feel sick from the fumes? While trying to live a healthy lifestyle by eating right and exercising, sometimes the last items we may think to change are our cleaning products! Learn how to be free of pests and harmful germs and avoid the serious health risks from synthetic cleansers!

Moms, Reclaim Your Life!
Yarrow Library: Tuesday, April 19, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Chilliwack Library, April 19, 2 pm – 3 pm

Come to the library to discover three easy ways to have more energy, compassion, and focus for you and your family. Modern motherhood is complicated, but you can learn how to thrive, and not just survive the daily routine! You’ll hear how to find the “me” inside the mom, and be the best mom you can be. This presentation includes hands-on techniques and handouts to take home. Presenter Heather Rattai is a Registered Clinical Counselor with over 20 years experience helping people.

Baby Sign Language
Sardis Library: Saturdays: April 9, 16, 23, and 30, 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Reduce tears and tantrums by signing with your baby before they can talk. Join a qualified instructor in our parent workshop and learn how to sign with your baby through handouts, lectures, videos and interactive games.

This is immediately followed by three Saturday interactive Sign, Say and Play classes for you and baby to practice what you learned. Parent workshop is for adults only. Sign, Say and Play classes are for both baby and parent to attend. This class is geared towards babies six months or older. Registration is required.
