The proposed site of the toxin recycling plant near the Fraser River.

resh water is 3% of the water on the planet. This precious resource is the focus of Canada Water Week, March 16-22nd. There are many threats to fresh water in our region. In order to examine and evaluate these serious concerns, local citizens have formed the Chilliwack Chapter of the Council of Canadians.

To engage the community in the issues around the precious limited resource of fresh water, the Chilliwack Chapter of the Council of Canadians and the WaterWealth Project invite the community to participate in two public events.

Thursday March 19th, WATER ON THE SCREEN will highlight two films and discussions addressing fresh water issues: “Red Run” and “Tapped”, presented at 7pm at Sto-lo Research & Resource Mmg’t. Ctr, Bldg. 10, 7201 Vedder Rd.

Sunday March 22nd, World Water Day, the Fraser River Rally will take place at 1pm on Cannor Rd., beside the site of the proposed Aevitas Hazardous Waste facility, 150 metres from the banks of the Fraser River. A nature walk following the rally will lead to the banks of the Fraser River alongside the Bert Brink Wetlands protected area.

The Council of Canadians is a national organization that empowers people to hold government and corporations accountable and advocates for clean water, fair trade, green energy, public health care and democracy.
