Driver slashed and beaten in violent takeover

f the driver knew what was going to happen, he never would have pulled over.


The bloodied victim of a violent carjack at Nowell and Yale in downtown Chilliwack explains to police what happened.


Trouble began just after 1 a.m., Saturday when a man driving a white 2003 Ford Focus, was flagged down by a couple at Nowell St. and Yale Rd.


The suspect, who was allegedly armed with a knife, got in and immediately attacked the driver, punching him and slashing at him with the knife. The driver, fearing for his life, bailed and the man and woman took off in the vehicle east down Yale Rd.


A short time later, police spotted the vehicle near Ruth and Naomi's shelter on Fletcher Ave. with the couple still inside.


The responding officer managed to arrest the female suspect, however the male darted off into the darkness.


A foot chase ensued, the suspect vaulted a couple of backyard fences at Bole and Victoria, and was gone.


The miscreant is described as; Caucasian, 6' feet tall, with brown hair and wearing a dark grey tee shirt, was immediately spotted in flight by another cop.


Reports were, the fleet-footed suspect tossed a knife while being chased which was recovered later.


A Police Dog Services K9 unit was in the area and able to conduct a search, but couldn't pick up a track.


BCAS paramedics took the injured driver to Chilliwack General Hospital for treatment.


It's unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other.


Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Mike Rail told The Voice Monday, they are investigating the case. More later as details emerge.
