Staff/Voice photos

A vehicle sits inside this building. Luckily, it landed between the pillars.

now had just begun falling on Chilliwack early Sunday when a spectacular car crash took out an entire section of the Baker Newby offices on Main St. leaving a man with serious injuries.

A red sports car left the road just after 1 a.m. and slammed into the building where it sat wedged up to its wiper blades.

One man was seriously injured and lying on the pavement outside of the car when emergency crews arrived.

BC ambulance paramedics and first responders worked frantically to get the man stabilized onto the gurney, then rushed him to Chilliwack General Hospital.

Five others, including two women and three men, were at the scene and in complete panic mode screaming and shouting at police and each other.

Two of the men were visibly intoxicated, and one moaned in agony as he was helped up off the sidewalk.

Officers understand drunken traumatized people and did a superb job diffusing the situation so no one had to be arrested.
