Abbotsford Prospera Credit Union staff and kids raised in excess of $60,000 over the last year for Vancouver Children's Hospital.
his past Sunday, a group of Prospera Credit Union staff presented a cheque for $60,000 to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation during Miracle Weekend. It’s something the credit union has been doing for more than a dozen years with fundraising activities such as jeans days, raffles, bake sales, test drive events, (and even a craft market in Prospera’s parking lot) taking place throughout the year. Over time, those dollars have added up and this year the team was super excited to discover they’d hit a big milestone.
Thanks to the generosity of members and staff, to date Prospera has raised $541,000 for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. That’s more than half a million dollars to support the purchase of life-saving equipment, research into the treatment, prevention and cure of childhood diseases, and recruitment and educational programs for caregivers and programs across BC!
“As Chair of Miracle Weekend and an employee of Prospera Credit Union, I’m extremely proud of our staff’s ongoing dedicated support of BC Children’s Hospital, which is their charity of choice,” said Dan Whalley. “It’s an incredible accomplishment that they’ve raised in excess of $500,000 over the past number of years. Funds raised are instrumental in allowing BC Children’s Hospital to purchase equipment, enhance services, and fund research and development. Congratulations!”
This year, the funds raised by Prospera, together with donations from other BC credit unions, will be used in part to purchase two types of equipment for BC Children’s Hospital – an ocular ultrasound to be used in the operating room and two patient monitors for the Oncology ward. The balance of contributions will go toward the Excellence in Child Health Fund.
