Integrated Personnel Support Centre in Chilliwack but no VA

ast week The Voice contacted Veteran's Affairs to ask if Chilliwack was going to get an office. The answer was no. For months now they've been opening offices across the country. In BC, there's one in Prince George. Two days ago a Surrey office was opened. The closest VA office is in Surrey.

Veterans Affairs response Wednesday was as follows:

Veterans Affairs Canada is committed to providing Veterans with excellent service, regardless of where they live in Canada.

Currently there are no plans to open additional offices, however, we continue to monitor this need by analysis of Veteran demographics in every area across the country. Veterans Affairs Canada continuously monitors how services and benefits are offered to Veterans and their families.

To better support Veterans and their families where they live, offices in Corner Brook, Brandon, Sydney, Kelowna, Saskatoon, Charlottetown, Thunder Bay, Windsor and Prince George have been reopened. A new office in Surrey, B.C. opened on May 31, 2017 and VAC has expanded outreach to Veterans and their families in the territories and other northern communities. In addition to this initiative, Veterans Affairs Canada has hired more than 420 staff to ensure Veterans and their families are getting the support they need.

As of May 30th, 2017, there were 1,391 Veteran clients of VAC in the Chilliwack area (Postal Codes V2R & V2P) in BC. They may access services at the new office in Surrey that is approximately 81 km from Chilliwack.

A partnership has also been forged with Service Canada, which has given Veterans across Canada approximately 560 points of service across the country where they can get in-person service. New Operational Stress Injury (OSI) clinics and Integrated Personnel Support Centres have also been opened across the country, giving Canadian Armed Forces personnel and Veterans greater access to mental health support and other key services. With these two initiatives and Veterans Affairs Canada Offices, Veterans can access more than 640 points of service across the country. The Chilliwack Service Canada Centre is located at 100 - 9345, Main Street, Chilliwack, BC.

Regardless of where Veterans live, they can continue to rely on home visits from registered nurses and their Veterans Affairs Canada case managers for those who require them. Veterans can also receive assistance directly from the Department by calling our toll-free number 1 866 522 2122 or visiting our website at www.veterans.gc.ca.

We are working to serve Veterans and their families better, faster, and in more convenient ways. My VAC Account is a simple and secure way for Veterans and their families to connect with Veterans Affairs Canada
online and access the services they need, when and where they need them.
