Buyers line up for some of the great locally produced food at the Chilliwack Farmers Market last Saturday. Below, MLA John Martin talks with a vendor.

espite competition from several major events around town last Saturday, and the fact that crops aren't being harvested yet, the highly anticipated Chilliwack Farmer's Market at Five corners got off to a roaring start.

Some of the items on the tables included clumps of freshly dug garlic and preserves like jam, honey and healthy fermented vegetables.

Verna Hoogeveen, Lisa Peach and her husband, have been hard at work organizing the market for the second year.

One of the things that has been a huge help this year is the addition of a steel storage container with shrink-wrapped  artwork provided by the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association.

Peach will use the container to store things that they needs each week such as tables, canopies etc.

Live music was courtesy of popular husband-wife singer-songwriter duo Chantele Delaine and Daniel McGuire.

A great thing about the Chilliwack Farmer's Market is that it gets better each week, peaking in August and September. See photos from 2014 here.

It's open every Saturday 9 a.m. to 2. p.m. until October 10.
