Downtown event highlights local talent

he Chilliwack Community Arts Council, in partnership with Downtown Chilliwack BIA, presents Art Under The Umbrella. Enjoy a fun-filled day with your family along the downtown streets of Chilliwack on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
There will be art presentations aplenty and artists painting what they see downtown. Musicians and dancers will complement the event with live performances and have your shopping bag in tow as a treasure trove of tables with unique artisan work will line the streets.
“The purpose of this event is to give an opportunity, not just for artists and artisans to present their work, but to also provide an opportunity to bring people together in fun and enjoyment to the downtown area while discovering new and exciting things it has to offer,” expressed Executive Director, Patti Lawn, of the Arts Council.
Here are some of the highlights, as you meander through the streets:
A unique creation by Carrie Lynn Victor, entitled ‘Mountain Goat Women’, will be displayed on the beautiful heritage building, hammocks donated by Drake Entrust Mortgage Services are grouped among the zigzag of maple trees in Central Community Park, a silkscreen piece, ‘A Sign From Above’ by Jonathan Hodges, a ‘Floating Tree’ piece donated by Tom Thompson Autoglass Ltd., fashion follows art as highlighted on a collaborative piece of a Diana dressed in Klein Blue donated by the Greek Islands restaurant with a live spraying technique by Westend Autobody. Other contributors to the event are art installations by Kelly Oberholtzer, Vanessa Dueck, Karen Ireland, Rose Marie Kossowan and Dorothy Scudamore, just to name a few. Creative Outlet dance studio will also perform contemporary dance pieces.
Don’t miss a spectacular day in the sun-warmed Chilliwack air taking in the beauty of downtown with the work of local artists and artisans, exploring unique shops, sampling food truck delights and other activities that are on location.
Art Under The Umbrella event will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 10am to 4pm in downtown Chilliwack.
