Employees extinguish early morning barn blaze

Released by City of Chilliwack Fire Chief Ian Josephson

t 5:30 this morning, firefighters from Chilliwack Fire Halls 1, 3, 4 and 6 responded to a reported barn fire in the 43000 block of Keith Wilson Road.

When firefighters arrived they found light smoke coming from the north end of one of the barns.

Workers had discovered the fire and managed to use portable fire extinguishers to knock the fire down. Firefighters checked for fire extension in the attic area of the barn and confirmed the fire was extinguished.

There was minor fire and water damage to the barn. The barn was being used by an industrial metal fabricator and they were able to re-start their operation with no business interruption.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Cause of the fire is considered accidental and may be related to the electrical system.
