President Michael Berger thanked the club and its members for naming him President. He reviewed many of the club’s accomplishments, and exhorted members to continue their good work. Berger also named some specific goals for the club to achieve this year.
“We will continue to attract new members and share our club’s story,” said Berger. “Our meetings will be fun and interesting, and our club will continue with projects locally and internationally that help show that Rotarians are people of action.”
Rotary District Governor Brad Whittaker (left) congratulated the new board, and shared the Rotary International theme for 2019-20 is Rotary Connects the World. He encouraged Rotarians to find ways to connect with each other and with those they don’t know. Whittaker also presented Berger with a theme banner to be displayed at club meetings.
After the installation of the Chilliwack Rotary board was complete, Whittaker installed the Interact Club of Chilliwack board. The Interact club is made up of young people 12 to17-years-old.

Chilliwack Councilor Bud Mercer, standing in for Mayor Ken Popove, passed the Order of Chilliwack from Past President Doug Wickers to President Michael Berger. The Order of Chilliwack is the city's highest honour, and is awarded to recognized citizens of Chilliwack who appropriately deserve by virtue of outstanding achievement or long-term contributions to the community. The Rotary Club of Chilliwack was awarded the second-ever Order of Chilliwack and each year the award is transferred to the incoming President.
Dean Rohrs, former Rotary International Vice President, shared greetings and remarks on behalf of Rotary International. She encouraged Rotarians to keep up the fight to eliminate the Polio disease, a major initiative from Rotarians for the last 30 years. Following the conclusion of the program, a dessert reception was held in the hotel atrium.
The Rotary Club of Chilliwack is dedicated to improving lives of people, both in the community and around the world. Chartered in 1934, the club is the largest club in Chilliwack with 140 members, and is most known for the Rotary Trail, the Rotary Dinner, the Rotary Garden & Lifestyle Tour, the Rotary Book Sale, and the Rotary Scholarship Golf Tournament.
