Retired Sardis Secondary school, Shirley Dargatz, networked with the community at the Loyalists' kiosk during Canada Day 2011 celebrations at Heritage Park.

here will be a flag-raising ceremony at Chilliwack City Hall on Tuesday, July 22 at 10:00 am.

The program will include Mayor Sharon Gaetz and other dignitaries.  Following the short program we will proceed to the flag poles and raise our flag.

The Chilliwack Branch of the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada puts on this program.

A number of the attendees will be in period dress (costumes) harkening back to 1783.

The enactment of this Annual Loyalist Day in British Columbia was facilitated by an Order In Council by the Honourable Steven L. Point during his term as Lieutenant Governor of BC.

The date of July 22 was chosen by the BC UELAC Branches to honour explorer Alexander Mackenzie, a Loyalist Descendant, who was the first European north of Mexico to travel across America by land reaching the Pacific Ocean on July 22. 1793.

If you would like more information related to this event and the history of the United Empire Loyalists, I would be delighted to do this.
