Corbould Apt Evacuated

Sprinklers hold back flames, noxious smoke

Residents look up as they anxiously wait outside their apartments while fire crews deal with a third floor blaze.

 

n July 2nd, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 9000 block of Corbould Street.

 

On arrival, fire crews reported seeing light smoke from a third floor apartment window of a four-storey residential apartment.

 

Firefighters responded from Halls 1 and 4 with firefighters arriving on scene within 5 minutes. The fire was quickly brought under control with the aid of the buildingís sprinkler system, minimizing fire damage to the tenantís unit. 

 

The tenant was home at the time of the fire and fortunate the sprinkler activated limiting the tenantís exposure to smoke and other hazardous gases. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

 

The cause of the fire appears to be related to smoking materials.
