Shawnigan Lake residents fight plan to turn area into dumping ground

By Shawnigan Lake Residents Assn

he BC Government has issued a permit to dump 100,000 tons of contaminated soil in the Shawnigan Lake watershed for each year for 50 years. This totals 5 million tons of contaminated soil. A partial list of contaminants from the SIA permit is included to the right.

The watershed serves 12,000 people and is only a few km from Victoria's protected watershed, Sooke Lake.

The Shawnigan Residents Association is headed to the Supreme Court of BC on January 11th to fight for our right to clean water.  Background information, including a complete legal archive, is available for viewing at www.thesra.ca
