Extreme Makeover

17th Annual Run for Mom fundraiser gets a facelift for May 9 event

By Lisa Luky, FVHCF/Submitted photo

he 17th Annual Run for Mom will see some big changes in 2015. For starters, the run is on Saturday this year instead of Sunday.

We keep speakers to a minimum, with just a few opening remarks and a warm-up, then an extensive awards ceremony after the run where top fundraising prizes are awarded, as are the top 3 finishers in each age and gender category for the 10K run.

Entertainment is provided by Wylie & The Other Guy. Although not yet confirmed, MCs are usually Scott & Lisa from Star 98.3. Food (burgers/dogs/fries) is supplied by Kiwanis Club of Sardis.

NEW DAY:  Saturday, May 9 (that’s right, we’re bowing to public pressure. Nearly 80% of survey respondents choose Saturday over Sunday. More time with Mom on Sunday! After a sleep-in, of course.

NEW LOCATION Parade Square, about 4 blocks from the old site, at the corner of Caen and Dieppe at Canada Education Park. (Those of you with us in 2009 remember that spot!)

NEW EVENT:  10K!  We’re going the distance. The 10K distance, also by popular demand. Don’t worry, the 5K fun run/walk and 1K Kids Run will stay.

NEW FEES:  Sorry, but we haven’t had a price bump since 2007. It’s a fundraising event, after all.  Prices now by event, not age:

• 10K timed run    $35

• 5K fun run/walk $25

• 1K kids’ run       $15

• Family rate         $70 (2 adults, 3 kids from same household) (Late fees still apply)

SAME GREAT CAUSE: Event proceeds go to support women’s and children’s programs at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Come join us for this super-fun, long-running community event in support of health care in your community!
