The Game of Love

Bowls of Hope teams up with the Chiefs Jan 23

By Jason Brown, Envision Financial

he Chilliwack Chiefs Hockey Club and Envision Financial are hoping to give the fight against hunger in Chilliwack a post-holiday boost.

At a time of year when many charitable organizations experience a decline in donations, Chilliwack’s junior hockey Chiefs, Envision Financial and Chilliwack Bowls of Hope are holding a fundraiser at the Chiefs’ Jan. 23 game against the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Gamegoers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or cash to donate to Envision Financial’s Full Cupboard, a community-based initiative for raising food, funds and awareness about the critical issue of hunger.  Fans will also be able to buy tickets for a raffle supporting Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society, and during the first intermission randomly selected fans will participate in a dash-to-donate event, with $1000 for charity up for grabs.

“After the holidays, our nonprofit partners are going into what is traditionally the toughest part of the year for them,” says Susan Byrom, senior manager of community investment at Envision Financial. “Giving is often top of mind around Christmas and many donors have given prior to the holidays. This special community evening benefiting Chilliwack Bowls of Hope will go a long way to ensuring children throughout Chilliwack have access to healthy, nutritious meals for the remainder of the school  year.”

All raffle proceeds will benefit Chilliwack Bowls of Hope. Food and funds donated to the Full Cupboard at the Chiefs game will directly benefit the Chilliwack Care and Share Food Bank.

“We are very excited about teaming up with the Chilliwack Chiefs and Envision Financial for what will be an exciting night for all,” says Mike Csoka, president of Chilliwack Bowls of Hope. “Both are great corporate partners that take every opportunity they can to support us feeding over 600 kids a day in 19 local schools.”

Donations can also be made anytime by text message: texting FULL to 41010 will add $10 to your mobile phone bill, with 100 per cent of that donation benefiting The Full Cupboard. Donations to The Full Cupboard can also be made at any of Envision Financial’s four Chilliwack locations or online here.
