he “Live in the moment” isn’t just an expression for families who find themselves at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, it’s a reminder that every moment and every memory is precious.

Through shared experiences and opportunities to create sacred mementos, the hospice’s Recreation Therapy Program is a key component in helping children to celebrate the everyday experience of being a child while building lasting memories with their families.

This February, Prospera Credit Union joined in supporting the hospice as sponsor of the Recreation Therapy Program at Dave Lede House Abbotsford.

“The Recreation Therapy Program at Canuck Place provides memorable experiences to BC’s children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.” explained Terri-Lynne Macdonald, Recreation Therapist at Dave Lede House Abbotsford. “These opportunities are a time for families to connect with others while also providing cherished family memories. We are so grateful for Prospera Credit Union’s support in acknowledging the benefit these recreational activities have on the lives of our children and families that we support through the Dave Lede House Abbotsford Recreation Program.”

“Canuck Place would not exist without the support of local corporations, individuals and groups,” stated Karina Chow, Manager, Development – Fraser Valley Region. “With the support of Prospera, we will be able to enhance our recreation therapy programming and support BC families including those in the Fraser Valley.”

“Recreation and play are a natural part of family life that often gets set aside when a child is ill,” said Shawn Good, President and CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “Through the Recreation Therapy Program, hospice staff help families savour their time together with activities they wouldn’t otherwise have access to. We’re very humbled to be able to play a role in helping these families create memories they will cherish forever.”
