Crossing Tragedy

Man hit by train at Ashwell Road CN rail crossing

Police, fire and paramedics were on the scene at the Ashwell rail crossing where one person lost their life Monday evening.

 

man was struck by a train at the Ashwell Rd rail crossing resulting in his death just after 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
       

Word is that the man was on foot on the tracks and the train couldn't get stopped for 20-30 car lengths.

 

Emergency personnel immediately responded and taped-off and barricaded Eagle Landing Parkway on the south side and Ashwell Rd. on the north side, while paramedics and first responders moved in to the scene.


Initially, a medevac chopper was called in but was later cancelled and the coroner attended. Later, they were at what was likely the victim's address on Spadina/Corbould.


Meanwhile, a couple of males were seen at the front of the train, likely gaining access from the Squiala Reserve, and police arrested one.
