MLA Martin announces Chilliwack Museum funding
Released by the BC Gov't Caucus
he Chilliwack Museum and Archives has been awarded a grant of $25,000 from the B.C. Arts Council to support its operating activities for the 2015/16 year, announced Chilliwack MLA John Martin.
“This significant investment in the work of the Museum and Archives enhances our ability to create a meaningful future for Chilliwack’s past,” said executive director Matthew Francis. “Support like this empowers us to creatively connect people with the rich collections that we steward. We are always seeking out innovative ways to open up our collections to the community: in person, through publications and programming, and online. People are amazed to discover that over 100 years of the The Chilliwack Progress newspaper are now searchable online. It’s a truly unique resource that we have been able to make a reality. We look forward to continuing these types of new projects to engage and inspire people with their history and heritage.”
“The BC government seeks to find ways to help arts and cultural activities thrive in our communities,” said Chilliwack MLA John Martin. “Supporting outstanding organizations like the Chilliwack Museum and Archives in the preservation and celebration of our city’s rich heritage is another way we accomplish this. The Chilliwack Museum and Archives does a tremendous job to catalogue and bring history to life,” Martin said.
The funding comes from a record-high $24 million that the BC Arts Council has received from the Government of British Columbia to support artists, arts activities and culture in 2014-15.
As B.C.’s lead agency for arts funding and development, council enlists the expertise of British Columbia’s artists to evaluate grant applications through a peer review process independent of government.
