Pedestrian killed while allegedly trying to outrun train
ragedy struck around 9:30 p.m. on Friday at the Young Road CN rail crossing when a pedestrian was killed while trying to cross the tracks.
According to people who were nearby when the accident happened, the man was trying to outrace an approaching train, however this has not been confirmed by RCMP.
Engineers saw what happened and immediately took steps to stop the train. They were replaced by another crew later.
Train crews fear the Young Rd. crossing and have told the Voice in the past that it's one of the worst they have to negotiate in the Lower Mainland. Last year, two pedestrians also lost their lives there.
More details later.
