t doesn’t take a lot to positively impact the life of another person. Sometimes it’s as simple as offering a smile or a few words of encouragement. It could also be a few dollars a week donated towards a worthy cause; that’s the philosophy behind the success of Prospera Credit Union’s annual United Way Campaign.

During the 2014 campaign, $104,500 was raised by the credit union and its 430 employees who live and work in communities from the Okanagan to Vancouver.

In addition to Prospera’s fundraising success, for the fifth year in a row the credit union had the opportunity to sponsor a community representative to assist United Way in their campaign efforts. Throughout the fall, Prospera’s sponsored rep Donna Vogel visited organizations of all sizes to share information about the many vital programs and services that are supported by United Way funding.

“United Way’s unique ability to work across complex issues with dozens of community partners is unmatched,” says Prospera’s President and CEO, Bruce Howell. “They initiate conversations with people who live in the community as well as municipal governments and community organizations to determine local priorities such as the need for affordable housing, early childhood education or tackling homelessness. Once identified, they bring people together to work on those priorities by partnering with local grassroots organizations—the kind that are at the heart of every one of our communities—and supporting them in responding to the specific needs of people in their area.”

As a local credit union, Prospera is dedicated to supporting organizations that make life better for everyone. Prospera employees have been coordinating United Way workplace campaigns for more than nine years now and raised well over $600,000 in that time. Knowing they are making a meaningful difference for others, they are committed to continue assisting those in need and building stronger communities throughout the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan.
