Man injured in low-speed motorcycle accident

A man was injured while riding this scooter in the Southgate Mall parking lot Tuesday evening.


man riding a scooter was hit by a pickup truck at low speed in the Southgate Mall parking lot on Yale Rd. just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.


Chilliwack Fire Department first responders and paramedics were on the scene in minutes and attended to the man. Luckily, he wasn't seriously hurt and walked under his own power to the waiting ambulance and taken to the hospital.


RCMP investigated the accident which left the scooter pinned under the pickup.


Motorized wheelchairs and limited-speed motorcycles (LSMs), such as scooters, are sometimes difficult to see as they zip around at night in parking lots.


Some safety advocates want to see mandatory road tests and licencing for those who ride low-speed motorcycles.

Stick to the rules of the road. Avoid lane-splitting or using bike lanes

Increase your visibility with brightly-coloured gear and use turn signals

Get to know your route and adjust for potholes or heavy traffic

Wear proper gear
