Couple taking family on a African Safari

Martin travelled to England to tell his wife they won the lotto.

ayne Martin and Sandee Towers will enjoy their big win with an African safari with family after winning the Lotto 6/49 $7M jackpot from the June 27, 2018 draw.

The Richmond couple also looks forward to spending more time with its four children and buying a house in the B.C. Interior. “We’re a close knit family, pretty quiet,” says Sandee. “We like to spend lots of time with our children.”

Wayne bought the ticket at 7-Eleven on Granville Avenue in Richmond. “I buy every week, it’s just a natural thing,” he said. After self-checking the ticket and seeing all of the zeros after the number seven, it took a few minutes for the life-altering news to sink in. “I looked at the numbers but it just didn’t compute. I got a Slurpee, and went back and checked my ticket again. Then I took a picture and bought my other tickets.”

Wayne decided to surprise his wife, who was travelling in England, by meeting her in London with two of their children to share the exciting news face to face. “He said, ‘remember how we wanted to buy a Jeep? Well now we can,’” Sandee recalled. “I asked him what he was talking about and he showed me a newspaper article about a $7 million ticket sold in Richmond…at first I just didn’t believe him and thought it was a joke.”

“We’re both just so excited,” Sandee added. “This win takes so much pressure off of our family. We can help our children, savour a slower pace, do more of the things we love and just enjoy being together.”
