Building saved, tenant loses suite

Fire fighters prepare to enter a structure on Margaret Ave. to extinguish a blaze on Wednesday. Below, smoke can be seen coming out a window behind a Chilliwack RCMP officer who helped ensure the building was evacuated so crews could go to work on the fire.
n July 30th, 2014 at approximately 7:30 pm the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 46300 block of Margaret Avenue.
On arrival fire crews reported seeing smoke and flame from the 2nd floor of a three-storey residential apartment building.
Fire Halls 1 and 4 responded with firefighters arriving on-scene within 5 minutes.
The fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the room of origin. There is significant heat and smoke damage to the room and smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.
The tenants were not home at the time of the fire and are currently in the care of Emergency Social Services. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature and under investigation by Fire Department officials.
