omewhere, deep in the bowels of Chilliwack's seedy underbelly, emerged 42-year-old John R. Jones who travelled to Idaho looking to use the internet to lure what he thought was a 14-year-old girl into his evil clutch. But, instead ended up being arrested on several sex charges.

Initially, the nefarious underpinnings of Jones' scheme came in the form of off-colour messages for about a week prior, hoping to have a sexual encounter with a "girl", who turned out to be an Idaho detective.

A rendezvous point was set up in a park-and-go lot last Friday.

Christmas. It was there that American police swooped in on the suspected pervert Jones, who came gift-wrapped.

According to the Idaho Statesman newspaper, Jones made contact with the detectives through a Craigslist ad where he posted that he was looking for sex with young girls.

It's not known what Jones was doing in Idaho, whether he was working and living, or just passing through, in which case, he may have left a trail of felonies and victims behind him. Police continue to investigate.

Jones appeared in court Monday on felony charges of enticement of a child under 16 over the internet, lewd conduct and abuse of a child under 16, which when combined, carry a sentence of up to 15 years in jail. His trial begins April 18.

Quite surprisingly, Jones was given the opportunity to post $50,000 bail bond.

The crime is such a problem, that Idaho state police have a task force dedicated to tracking down people who use the internet to lure and exploit kids.
