Chilliwack Community bandleader Tim Wright (L) accepts a 879 Wing Citation from Captain (Ret.) Ted Bowman

very community needs them. Those marching brass pipe bands who play at sports games and events. In Chilliwack, quite often, the sweet sounds you hear emanate from Chilliwack Community Band, led by Tim Wright.

Last Tuesday at Legion No. 4, Ted Bowman, President of 879 Earl MacLeod RCAF Wing, presented Wright with their highest honour—a Wing Citation.

The 879 Wing wanted to show their appreciation for the long-term commitment and dedication that Wright and his band have shown the Wing over the years at events such as the annual Battle of Britain ceremony.

Wright is our Benny Goodman in Chilliwack. Now well into his 70s, he's been at it for life since a boy growing up in a small prairie farming community. It takes a lot of practice and planning and practice to put it all together. It keeps Wright busy.

"I love it," he said. "We play on Canada Day, and all around town at different events."

The band frequently seeks people who can play and want to exercise their talent! For more information, contact Tim Wright at 604.795.7371 or Dale Warr at 604.858.3766.

Mark your calendars! RCAFA Battle of Britain Ceremonies are held annually in Chilliwack Veterans Park. This years Memorial Service will be held on Sunday September 11, 2016 starting at 2 P.M.
