Released by Kylie Bartel, Jelly Marketing

or aspiring young poets and lyricists in the Fraser Valley, lelәm“ Arts & Cultural Café and Langley Centennial Museum are proud to present Scriptum Vox – the third annual youth poetry slam for poets age 13-18.

On Saturday, May 3, creative youth speakers will gather at lelәm“ from 2-4 pm and take the stage to share their voice.

The top teenage wordsmiths and performers in the Fraser Valley will be decided by five guest judges selected from the audience and receive prizes for their original compositions.

May 3 will also be a buzz of activity at the Fort Langley National Historic Site as they host their Summer Launch and BBQ. Directly following Scriptum Vox, families can head to the Fort and enjoy festivities such as airsoft musket firing, BBQ concession, farm animals, behind the scenes tours and free admission from 4:30-7pm.

Visit the Šxwimelə Gift Shop inside the Fort where you can taste new maple treats and enter the draw for door prizes. There are also awesome sales to peruse such as 30% off rain boots, toques and fingerless gloves. Managed by the Seyem' Qwantlen Business Group, Šxwimelə Gifts specializes in First Nations Art, gift ware, jewellery, crafts, Fort Langley memorabilia and Canadiana merchandise.

Spots are still open for young poets to enter Scriptum Vox 2014 by emailing here or calling 604.532.3536. Entry fees are $5 per competitor and more information can be found at www.museum.tol.ca.

With something fun for every family member, come out to lelәm“, the Fort and Šxwimelə Gifts on May 3 and celebrate the summer launch of Fort Langley!
