Ashwell fourplex without smoke detectors says chief, residents evacuate safely

City of Chilliwack firefighters got a handle on this fourplex fire quickly and saved the structure however it sustained water and smoke damage.
n April 17, 2014 at approximately 5:39 pm the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire located in the 9200 block of Ashwell Road.
On arrival, fire crews saw smoke venting from the ground and second floor of a 2-storey multi-resident house.
Although the fire was extinguished quickly, there was still some fire and significant smoke damage to the interior of two of the suites in the structure.
All the residents escaped injury, although there did not appear to be any functioning smoke alarms.
There were no firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental but is still under investigation by fire department officials.
