Adding Fermented and Cultured Food to Your Diet

Chilliwack Library: Tuesday, September 19, 7 pm – 8 pm

Cultured and fermented foods are a healthy and delicious addition to any diet.  Join health food enthusiast Monika Serwa to learn about safe home fermenting and culturing, and the historical traditions around the world of these classic but easy food preparation techniques.  Monika’s demonstrations will lead you through the basics to take home and try in your own kitchen.

Spin, Pop, Boom with Mad Science

Sardis Library, Saturday, Sept 23, 11 am – 11:45 am

You will be amazed when the Mad Scientist is able to defy gravity in this energetic and spectacular special event. Didgeridoo tubes, foaming hands and steaming chemical reactions will introduce children to a world of exciting chemistry.


Author Reading: “How Deep is the Lake – A Century at Chilliwack Lake”

Chilliwack Library: Saturday, September 23, 1 pm – 3 pm


Join author Shelley O’Callaghan as she talks about her new book, an account of how her family’s story is tied to the history of the lake. “What begins as a personal journey of her relationship to the land and her desire to uncover the history of her family’s remote cabin, turns into an exploration and questioning of our rights as settlers upon a land that was inhabited long before we came.” Visit here to read more about O'Callaghan's book here. O’Callaghan, an environmental lawyer, is a member of the North Shore Writer’s Association, The Whistler Writing Society and Canadian Creative Non Fiction Collection.



Chilliwack Library: Thursday, September 28, 2 pm – 3:30 pm


Hypertension, also called high blood pressure, can damage your blood vessels and cause health problems.  Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but it becomes more common as you get older. This workshop, presented by COSCO Senior’s Health and Wellness Institute, will review the effects of high blood pressure, discuss the need to monitor your blood pressure, talk about treatment options, and stress the importance of prompt diagnosis.  Registration required.


BeTween Book Club

Love to read and talk about books?  Can’t make it down to the library on your own?  Join our monthly BeTween Book Club and bring along your mom, grandpa, sister (you decide) who also loves to read! New to 2017, the BeTween Book Club aims to read books, have lively discussions, eat snacks and meet other book lovers!  At the first meeting we’ll discuss what the book club is all about, pick up the first book and have some snacks! Recommended for ages 9-13


Henna Workshop

Chilliwack Library: Saturday, Sept 30, 11 am – 1 pm


Chilliwack Library celebrates BC Culture Days with a Henna workshop for Adults and Teens (13 and up). In this introductory, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to apply Henna, the best way to take care of your Henna, as well as interesting facts about this ancient art.  All supplies are for this free session but space is limited. Registration is required, please call the library at 604 792 1941 to reserve your spot.

No trivia is too trivial! Test your memory at the Friends of the Chilliwack Libraries Society 14th Annual Quiz Night. Come for a fun evening at the Chilliwack Library of laughter, groans and a chance to win the famous "Smarty Pants Award"! Win door prizes or buy tickets for the gift basket raffle! Bring your group of 8, or come alone and join others to form a team. Tickets for this popular event are $13 per person, include a snack and are available starting on September 5th at the Chilliwack Library.
