New Home Destroyed in Late Night Blaze

Family escapes unharmed but lose everything

t approximately 11:40 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013 the Chilliwack Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 6400 block of Bearstone Place on the Tzeachten (chee-act-ten) Indian Reserve in the Vedder Crossing area of Chilliwack.

First-arriving fire crews reported a 3500 square foot home was fully involved with fire venting from the roof of the second floor. Firefighters deployed master streams in an effort to knock down the intensely burning fire and had it under control within 90 minutes. 

All occupants, a family of five, were able to escape from the home unharmed. The four-year-old home has been completely destroyed.

Firefighters from Hall 1, 4 and Hall 6 assisted in putting out the fire and will be on scene for a majority of the night. There were no firefighter injuries.  

The cause of the fire is unknown and the incident will be investigated by the RCMP and by Fire Department Officials.
