Purple Light Nights

Annual domestic violence campaign kicks off with tree lighting Oct 1

ctober is Purple Light Nights month. This community sponsored awareness campaign began in king County, Washington in 2007.  The goal is to increase awareness of domestic violence issues and itís affect upon children and families. As well it provides education to build healthy relationships.


Several community groups; such as Police based Victim Assistance, Community Services, Community based Victim Assistance, the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP, and the  Anne Davis Transition Services have come together to  support Purple Light Nights for the month of October.  

The month will commence with the annual lighting of the tree. This year the tree is being donated by local business, Kenís Tire and Wheel. The tree lighting will occur on Tuesday, October 1st at 6:30 pm at 45798 Alexander Avenue. The public is welcome to attend.

To support this initiative the public may purchase, for a $2.00 donation, a purple light at the Chilliwack Crime Prevention Services building at 45877 Wellington Avenue. As Well several downtown businesses will be selling Purple Lights.
