Cultus Lake News

Par or Handicap?

Park could lose golf course over possible housing development

Submitted by The Cottages at Cultus Lake Strata Council

ill Cultus Lake transform from its current status as a recreation destination for families living in the Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley area into a high density residential area?

For decades, the Aquadel Golf Course has been a centre-piece in the recreational community of Cultus Lake, attracting families, friends, vacationers and campers alike. Now that legacy is in jeopardy.

A covenant on the land ensuring it would be maintained as a golf course until 2076 has been removed and now the proposed changes to the Official Community Plan will make the golf course open to development for high density year-round residences.

Despite massive community opposition, the Fraser Valley Regional District seems intent to remove this jewel within the Cultus Lake recreational community, opening up the land for residential development without foresight to the loss of recreation, the negative impact that will have on the business community of Cultus Lake and the consideration of increased traffic with no real thought to emergency evacuation.
