Robber Cornered

Man on bicycle collared by off-duty cop

Chilliwack Mounties speak with corn seller after robbery at Vedder and Knight Rd. on Sunday.

 

n September 23, 2012 at approximately 4:35 PM, an off-duty Chilliwack RCMP officer noticed something alarming on his way to work.

 

While stopped at the lights at Vedder Road and Knight Road, he saw a man ride his bike up to the corn hut stationed in the parking lot of Fraser Valley Meats.

 

The officer observed an altercation between the man and the young girl working at the corn hut and believed she was being robbed.

 

The officer, who does not wish to be identified, quickly pulled his vehicle into the parking lot. The suspect got on his bike and began riding away from the scene.

 

The member ran after the suspect and was able to apprehend him. Uniformed officers attended the scene shortly after and the suspect was taken into police custody. "As police officers, we never really shut off," said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. "This young member recognized immediately that something was wrong and did not think twice about engaging that situation."

Sean Gordon, age 25 of Chilliwack, has been charged with one count of robbery. The officer is a 2-year member of the Chilliwack detachment.
