Heather Lavallee and Rollie Fox help raise money Saturday at the Legion on Mary St. for the Terry Fox Foundation.

n Saturday, a very small group of people raised a large sum of money and for those who love a great community story, that's what happened at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, where Rollie Fox, father of renowned cancer runner Terry, and friends, participated in a head shave on the eve of the 32nd Annual Terry Fox Run the biggest cancer fundraiser in Canada.

Even though Fox is one of the most famous people in Canada, in Chilliwack, he's just one of the guys and seems to know everyone.

He was one of the first to arrive at the "friendly" Legion on Mary Street.

"Edmonton's still behind," he said looking at the game scores on the big screen TV as he sat down at a table.

Meanwhile, hairdresser Heather Lavallee was setting up a table across the room with walls are laden in history.

Lavallee said she's been doing the head shave for a couple of years now and enjoys it.

"Whoever wants a hair cut gets a haircut and as long as they make a donation, they can get it whatever way they want," said Lavallee.

Fox was wearing the 32nd version of the run tee shirt when he spoke with the Voice.

Rollie Fox has a little fun Saturday during the head shave fundraiser.

He's been busy in the build-up to the run. Last week he was at Chilliwack City Hall for a flag-raising ceremony and after the run will be taking a well-deserved holiday.

"I'm going to Hawaii a week today for 16 days," he said and then turned to hand out a button with his son's photo and the word "Spirit".

The run takes place at the Landing Sports Center on Spadina Ave. There are 10km, 5km, 2km marked routes. Suitable for bikes and wheelchairs/strollers. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Registration for runners and walkers begins at 7:30 A.M. The run kicks off at 9 A.M. precisely.'
