ave you ever secretly wanted to shove your face into fresh Airport Coffee Shop cream pie?

Chocolate flew in all directions Saturday as seven contestants dove into their pies with wild-eyed abandonment, slurping up fresh chocolate cream in a pie eating contest at Little Mountain Greenhouses as part of their 1st Annual Fall Festival and fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital.

The charitable effort seemed to come from all corners of the community as people mingled and munched on barbecued pulled pork and corn on the cob.

Fraser Valley Meats donated a wagon full of beef for the BBQ. The Airport Coffee Shop brought in the fresh pies while Jeff Bonner and his Tractorgrease Folk serenaded the hungry crowd.

The event is gaining in popularity at the garden store, and this year the City of Chilliwack firefighters matched donations up to $1500.

Organizer Meagan Mucha, who is the Marketing Manager at the garden centre, couldn’t be more pleased with the response she’s gotten from the Chilliwack community.

“It’s great, we’re happy to be doing this to help the Children’s Hospital,” said Mucha. “The firefighters and our sponsors have been just excellent, and the community has been so supportive.”
