Six Five-Dollar Fest Flicks

Chilliwack Film Fest returns with a great lineup

t’s film series time in Chilliwack this Spring, as we bring in six internationally acclaimed films. The Chilliwack Arts Council and The Toronto Film Festival Circuit co-present the 2010 Chilliwack Arts Council International Film Series: starting September 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27 and November 3. Ticket prices are $5.00 per screening. A Series pass for all 6 films will be available from the Arts Council as a convenience to those who do not wish to stand in line for tickets, and who want to see all six shows. This is always a popular event so get there early for your tickets!

All movies start 7:00 pm at the historic Paramount Theatre, 46187 Yale Road. Chilliwack.

September 29: Get Low USA/ Germany/ Poland [PG-13] Drama. English. 100 min. A movie spun out of equal parts folk tale, fable and real-life legend about the mysterious, 1930s Tennessee hermit who famously threw his own rollicking funeral party... while he was still alive. Starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek and Bill Murray. IMDB rating 7.6 after 1034 votes.

October 6: The Kids Are All Right USA 2010 [18A] Comedy/ Drama. English ~ 104 min. Two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life starring Julienne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo.

October 13: I am Love Italy [18A] Drama. Italian/ Russian/ English (Subtitled) ~ 120 min. A tragic love story set at the turn of the millennium in Milan. The film follows the fall of the haute bourgeoisie due to the forces of passion and unconditional love. Starring Tilda Swinton, Flavio Parenti and Edoardo Gabbriellini. IMDB rating 7.2 after 1351 votes. IMDB rating 7.8 after 2890 votes.

October 20: The Secret in Their Eyes Argentina/ Spain 2009 [18A] Mystery/ Suspense. Spanish (Subtitled) ~ 127 min. A retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later. Starring Soledad Villamil, Ricardo Darin and Carla Quevado. IMDB rating 8.3 after 16,963 votes.

October 27: Score: A Hockey Musical Canada 2010 [PG13] Comedy/ Drama/ Musical. English ~ 100 min. A teenage hockey player becomes a national sensation. Starring Dave Bidini, Marco DeFelice and Miles Fabre. Currently unrated on IMDB. No photo.

November 3: Mao’s Last Dancer Australia 2009 [PG13] Drama. English/ Mandarin ~ 117 min. A drama based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin. At the age of 11, Li was plucked from a poor Chinese village by Madame Mao's cultural delegates and taken to Beijing to study ballet. In 1979, during a cultural exchange to Texas, he fell in love with an American woman. Two years later, he managed to defect and went on to perform as a principal dancer for the Houston Ballet and as a principal artist with the Australian Ballet. Starring Bruce Greenwood, Kyle MacLachlan and Joan Chen. IMDB rating 7.2 after 1200 votes.
