t's
been big, gray, lifeless wall at Five Corners for quite some time. But
that's about to change with thanks to local artist Davis Graham who beat out
8 other mural art competition with his pop art look at from Chilliwack's
past and present called "Panoramic of Story of Chilliwack."
In July, the Public Art
Advisory Committee, who are responsible for paintings, murals, tile mosaics
in the city, put out the call for artwork and received a variety of entries.
Three were short-listed and then narrowed down to Graham.
The
competition closed Sept 21, 2017. James Mackay placed second with his
"Historic Train" followed by Ester Hoogendoorn with her "Geometric Shapes"
and Aboriginal Hummingbirds.
City Council, working with Downtown Design Guidelines, came up with the plan
which comes with a $5000 price tag to pay for supplies.

"Overall, each of the proposed murals are considered an improvement to the
existing building and gives the building its own personality while remaining
sensitive to the surrounding built forms and streetscapes," wrote Ryan
Mulligan, director of recreation and culture, wrote in his report which will
passed by council on Tuesday.
