n October 7th, 2016, at approximately 8pm, the Chilliwack Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire located in the 6400-block of Sumas Prairie Road.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported seeing smoke and flame from the exterior deck and rooftop of a single-storey residential home.

Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 4 & 6.

At the initial stage the fire was stubborn to fight as it was deep-seated within the roof structure.

Fire crews fought the blaze and contained it to the immediate structure, with no fire damage to neighbouring properties.

Occupants were home at the time of the fire and quickly and safely evacuated the residence. The residents are now staying with family.

There were no civilian and or firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental at this time and is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Dept.
