ast week, the devastating Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines killing thousands and leaving many homeless and injured.
Maria Kish, President of the Filipino Association, of Chilliwack (FILAC) told the Voice in a phone interview on Tuesday that her group is currently seeking donations to help victims of the storm.
"We are looking for clothing and household items and will be sending parcels at the end of the month," said Kish.
The donations will be going to APO Omega for distribution in the Philippines.
Kish said that although some of their local members have family there who lost their homes, thankfully everyone is safe.
A donation box was made and will be set up at FILAC's Saturday basketball practices from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the gym at Mt. Slesse Middle School, 5871 Tyson Rd.
They will be raising money through coffee and cookies sales.
FILAC will also do pick-ups. Those with donations can call Maria at 604-316-2813.
