Funk Clarifies BIA Role Downtown

Surveyed businesses indicate safety, greening, marketing biggest concerns

Submitted by Kathy Funk, Exec Dir. BIA

hank you for your recent email inquiring about the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association (BIA). Feedback is very important to us and we appreciate your taking the time to write to us.

As identified in a survey by the businesses we support, our top 3 areas of focus are Safety within our Community (24/7 Security team), Urban Design and Greening (clean streets, façade improvement, greening of the shopping walkways) and Marketing (which includes special events and promoting the downtown as a destination). We encourage all businesses that fall under the BIA’s umbrella to participate in any and all committee meetings to address any concerns they may have. These individuals may contact Debbie Biggin at 604-792-4576 (or e-mail here) for details on the next committee meetings.

The BIA volunteer Board of Director’s are made up of eight tenants and eight property owners who are elected at our Annual General Meeting. As you will see on our website www.downtownchilliwack.com  there are also representatives from other organizations including one City staff.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Sincerely,

Kathy Funk, Executive Director
