Run for the Money

Cops inspired by "Matt" for the Law Enforcement Torch Run June 6

he Voice now has the times and routes for walkers and runners in the Torch Run just in case you wanted to cheer them on and take their photos!

“We are proud to support Special Olympics athletes like Matt in our community. The Law Enforcement Torch Run starts at 10:45 a.m. with those who choose to run leaving Sardis Secondary for the 3 km route while others, who would rather walk, departing from Save-On-Foods in Sardis," says S/Sgt Dave Eidet of Chilliwack RCMP.

Officers taking part in this year’s LETR, scheduled for June 6th, will be accompanied by a local Special Olympics athlete Matthew ‘Matt’ Mackay. Matt participates in the Special Olympics power lifting events of dead lift, cling and jerk, squat and boasts a lift of 225 pounds in the bench press. Matt’s strength is not reserved for just weight lifting, as can be attested to by Chilliwack RCMP officers and staff, who have witnessed him working at the detachment for the City of
Chilliwack, every Tuesday over the past seven years.

Walkers: Meet at corner by Save-On (Promontory and Vedder) for a 1.5 km walk.

Meet Time: 10:45am

Start Time: 11am

Runners:  Start at Sardis Secondary, the corner of Stevenson Rd and Vedder Rd. 3.3 km

End at: Pacific Regional Training Centre, 1101 Calais Crescent

• Route: Run from the school on Stevenson Rd down to Vedder Road. Right on Vedder to Keith Wilson Rd. Right on Keith Wilson Rd. Left on Dieppe. Right on Calais Crescent.

• Ending time: 11:45am

• Speakers: At end of Run
