his is a big year for all Canadians as we celebrate 150 years as a country.

It’s going to be a year filled with celebrations of all kinds from local community events to activities that engage Canadians from sea to sea. Something that’s really exciting is the Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge, a nation-wide movement led by Volunteer Ottawa (in partnership with Volunteer Canada and volunteer centres across the country) where volunteers are challenged to donate 150 hours to making a difference in their community.

Volinspire, an innovative “tech for good” online platform that connects volunteers with organizations that are important to them and allows them to find volunteer opportunities has been chosen as the official platform for the Volunteer Challenge.

Volunteers are invited to register for the challenge, share their stories, track volunteer hours and discover what others across the country are doing to show their Canadian pride. Prospera is one of the founding partners of Volinspire and we are proud to see this platform gaining popularity to help build stronger and more connected communities across the country.

To kick off Prospera’s Canada 150 celebrations, we are excited to commit to contribute 5,000 volunteer hours to our communities and we’ve challenged other credit unions across the country to match our contribution, including G&F Financial Group, Westminster Savings and Interior Savings.

“Celebrating 150 years as a country is meaningful for all Canadians. At Prospera, we’re excited to rock this volunteer challenge and show some true Canadian spirit,” said Shawn Good, President and CEO of Prospera Credit Union. “The 5,000 hours will make a significant contribution to the communities we serve and we invite Canadians of all ages to join the challenge to help their own communities. Canada 150 will provide a unique way to truly celebrate and showcase the power of working together”.

In 2016, Prospera staff contributed more than 4,220 volunteer hours, which impacted over 200 non-profit organizations in BC communities. As a credit union they are very excited to take on this challenge and join volunteers across the country to celebrate Canada 150 and make a meaningful difference!
