“Quebec was the first Canadian jurisdiction to legalize medically-assisted death in 2015. The federal government followed with its own law last year. And now the case of Jocelyne Lizotte may prompt another Quebec first. The provincial government has said it may look at expanding its medically-assisted dying laws to allow advanced consent for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other incurable, cognitive diseases.” ~ Anna Maria Tremonti, CBC The Current. “I would like to be able to sign a document today which stipulates that when, for a period of 30 days, I cannot recognize my grandchildren or remember their names, I will be put to death. But no country will allow me to sign a request today, when I am — arguably — of sound mind, for euthanasia to be carried out at a later date, when I am not.”
