The Long and Winding Road

Alzheimer's Walk 'a good step on the dementia journey'

Submitted by Ron Angel for ASBC honouree Vi Hoyt & family

diagnosis of dementia is hard to hear.

We turned to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. for support, information, and education. Living with the disease publicly as the Hoyt family has done for the Fraser Valley 2013 Investors Group Walk for Memories, one of the Society’s signature fundraising events, was a new experience for our family. But we felt it was important.

Vi and Ted Hoyt cut the ribbon to start the 2013 Walk for Memories in January.

Participating in the Walk was a good step for us on the dementia journey. Not only were we helping to raise awareness about the disease, but we were also helping to raise funds to ensure other families have support on the journey, and so that research can one day eliminate this heartbreaking illness altogether.

We are grateful for the support in Chilliwack. As anyone who is living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias or who has been on the journey as a caregiver understands, it means the world to know that you are not alone.

Thank you all, and see you at next year’s Walk! Save the date – Jan. 26, 2014!
