Taking A Putt For Prostrate Cancer
Huge turnout for the 2nd Annual Ride to Live fundraiser
Mayor Sharon Gaetz (silver/red helmet) rides on the lead bike from Trike Central under a full police escort at the start of the Ride to Live Sunday.
ne-in-six men will get prostrate cancer. A million are affected. It's the second leading cause of death in Canadian men. Only 20 per cent have been diagnosed and 80 per cent donít know they have it.
Motorcyclists from all points of the Lower Mainland converged Sunday in Chilliwack at the Walmart parking lot to take the Ride to Live, a fundraiser for prostrate cancer research.
According to Roy Hafeli, about 200 Chilliwack bikers, paramedics, police and fire crews and supporters took part for the 2nd Annual Ride To Live. Joining them for the Vancouver run were another 500 bikers.
Riders left Chilliwack and headed to Mission where they met up with the Vancouver chapter and together proceeded to Fraser Downs in Cloverdale.
Last year, The Ride to Live raised $140,000 but despite the economy the numbers this year are up.
"Just over $150,000 was raised for prostate cancer research, education and support," said Hafeli in an e-mail to the Voice earlier this week. "The ride ended in Cloverdale with a ride celebration which included food, hot rods and music."
The cost is $25 per bike to join in the Ride to Live. The registered riders/passengers get a Ride Gift; Trip Tik Souvenir Booklet containing maps/directions, poker score card, ride information, meal band, sponsor coupons, agenda and VIP & Ride messages. They also get a prize draw ticket for every $100 donated; bike flag with zip tie & ride year rocker pin and a static sticker is available for your windshield.
The Ride to Live goal is to raise funds to support prostate cancer research, education and support in British Columbia, while at the same time, organize a fantastic motorcycle poker run and Classic Car & Motorcycle Show & Shine.
