Trailer Trashed

Elderly couple escape Unsworth Rd fire unharmed

Released by Asst. Chief Ian Josephson, City of Chilliwack Fire Dept

t 1:55 am this morning, Chilliwack firefighters from fire halls 1 and 4 responded to a structure fire in the 5700 block of Unsworth Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved trailer. Fire crews managed to control the fire and prevent any exposure damage to adjacent trailers.

Fortunately the male and female owners of the trailer had escaped unharmed via a second exit as the main doorway was blocked by the fire’s smoke and heat. They had been alerted to the fire by their pet dog. The dog and cat perished in the fire.

There was extensive fire and smoke damage to the trailer and contents.

There were no firefighter injuries.

Cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

Chilliwack Fire Department would like to remind the public of the following:

  • Install and test their smoke alarms so they are operational at all times.

  • Practice their home fire escape plan to ensure they have 2 ways out of their home during a fire emergency.
