Breaking Business

Glass vandals still smashing windows in the downtown area

ho's been breaking businesses windows in Chilliwack? This is a question RCMP want answered after more glassbreaks occurred last week.

On Sunday, Mounties responded to a glass break call at a local business on Young Rd. The investigating officer may have found a steel "bolt" inside which could have come from a slingshot.

Later that day, vandals struck another business and on Friday a business on First Ave. had it's window.

This comes after local media reported on a series of other glass breaks plaguing the downtown recently.

Each time a business window is smashed, the owner has to pay their insurance deductible, which is usually in the hundreds of dollars. With small downtown businesses already struggling, it doesn't take that many glassbreaks to put one or more out of business.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth told the Voice in an e-mail Wednesday that they are "aware of the significant mischief" and are currently working on tracking down the vandal(s) responsible.

The police need the community's assistance solving this senseless crime.

If you have any information regarding this incident, or any other business glassbreak in Chilliwack contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Rewards are paid for some tips.
