Feed Mill Ignites

Firefighters struggle with difficult blaze

Released by James MacDonald, Asst. Fire Chief, CFD

t approximately 11:00 am, firefighters from Chilliwack Fire halls 1, 3, 4, and 6 responded to a structure fire in the 44000 block of Simpson Road.

Upon arrival, fire crews saw smoke coming from the roof and vents of an industrial feed mill.

Firefighters entered the building and found fire and smoke in some machinery vents and the attic space. The fire was very difficult to extinguish due to restricted access to the interior of the machinery spaces and the attic. The mill sustained heavy fire and smoke damage to some machinery and the roof structure.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department investigators but appears to be accidental.
